Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) provides Austin area professionals the opportunity to significantly contribute to Austin Habitat’s vision of eliminating poverty housing through the power of home ownership while developing a network of active, like-minded professionals and having a good time.
Austin Habitat has served the Austin community since 1985, building more than 235 new affordable homes with low income families. Homes are built with volunteer labor and community funding, and sold to home buyers with zero-interest mortgage loans. Each home buyer participates in financial education programs and contributes approximately 400 hours of “sweat equity”. . . offering a hand up, not a hand out.

Each year through a variety of fundraising efforts, including the annual Build the HYP Gala and Urban Ranch Round-Up, HYP independently raises enough funds to build a home, and dedicates volunteer hours to construction of the HYP home and other Austin Habitat homes. While Austin Habitat often has a long wait list for on-site volunteer opportunities, HYP members have the benefit of regularly scheduled HYP build days.

HYP members also enjoy monthly social engagements and occasional exclusive member appreciation events, as well as opportunities for leadership roles in the organization.
